TOURNAMENT HISTORYIn 1999 Little League Inc. initiated a World Series for its Junior Softball Division, for players ages 13-14. The Little League World Series (for boys ages 11 and 12), of course, has become a fixture on the national sports scene, having been around for 60 years, and is now broadcast around the world. And other Little League divisions have had their own tournaments, some going back decades. The series was awarded to Kirkland, Wash., a bucolic suburb of Seattle. That first series was won by Midway Little League from Woodway-Hewitt, Texas. From there the tournament took off and has been a success ever since.
