LATIN AMERICA REPEATS!

Defending champions from Puerto Rico score
in the bottom of the seventh for controversial 4-3 win

NOTE: It's 6 p.m. on the West Coast, and the game is being rebroadcast NOW on ESPN2. Check your cable system!

That's two championships in a row — and three in four years — for the Latin America team from Maunabo, Puerto Rico, in the Junior Softball World Series.

The lead seesawed back and forth in this fantastic game. The Southeast team from West Tampa Little League in Tampa, Fla., had just tied the game in the top of the seventh.

The controversy came after the game, when the Southeast team protested that a Latin America player had not batted in the game, a violation of Little League's minimum-play rule. Little League headquarters in Williamsport, Pa., was consulted — as it must be for all tournament protests — and ruled that the result of the game would stand.

Michelle Rivera was the winning pitcher for Latin America. Yahelis Munoz went 2-for-4. Nikki Lopez went 2-for-4 for Southeast and pitched an outstanding game.

Latin America had won the head-to-head matchup between the teams in this year's pool play, 5-0.

East beat West Saturday in the consolation game between the teams that were eliminated in the semifinal round. West Point Little League of Greensburg, Pa., defeated Gilroy (Calif.) Little League, 13-5. See all the results on the Schedule page.
